Calls for survey to assess Canvey's failing road network (From Echo)

If you are a resident in Castle Point all you ever read about is CANVEY CANVEY CANVEY!!!!!

I know many many roads in Benfleet that are far worse and can be easily compared with third world roads.

The difference is that in Benfleet you always have alternative options.

Yes, the main roads may have problems at times but if, for example, Tarpots is gridlocked for someone wishing to go London bound then you can go through Rayleigh to the A127 or down Essex Way and via Canvey Way.

Once Canvey is gridlocked at Waterside there are NO alternatives for the whole 50,000 Island population.

This article may concentrate on the roads issue, but it also about the whole infrastructure such as drainage and sewers. Our MP and Councillor Blackwell are singing from the same hymn sheet here I hope. The problem with all of Castle Point is it cannot cope with more properties with the current infrastructure. The problem for Canvey is plans have been approved for 700 properties and no account has been taken if the infrastructure which cannot cope now.
Burning999 do you seriously believe that the over 700 properties because they are being built on Canvey won't affect Benfleet at all? They will only add to the present road congestion everywhere in the Borough. Put on too what is planned, but opposed by Castle Point in Benfleet which most probably will get approved on appeal and the floodgates will be opened.
Both our MP. And Councillors of all parties should support this no build without the infrastructure.

John T Pharro I think you will find that what you have said has already been said by the Canvey Party Councillors for many years. An awful lot of the issues are mainly issues that are currently the responsibility of our County council and for the next 5 months we will be bamboozled with all this 'I will fight' from the candidates. I must add that if the lot we currently have representing us is anything to go by then they have had their chance in the past as this 'building new homes' idea hasn't just fallen out of the sky today. if I remember rightly Councillors at all levels including County have all been working on a 'local plan' for many years and the County ones who are responsible for the roads have not made any noises during the last few years otherwise we wouldn't be talking about it today.
I will also take this opportunity to comment about the Essex County Council response of the schools will not be able to cope !!! This infuriates me as Mr Castle who was responsible for education at the time of closing Furtherwick Park school on Canvey Island. He stated a drop in pupil numbers at primary level meant that Furtherwick Park would no longer be needed. In my opinion money 'allocated' for the 2 schools should have been made available to refurbish the 3 schools. He also promised No dwellings would be build on the old castle view site but there are plans for this. These promises are made by so called county Councillors who are all up for re-election this year.....Heaven helps us

Actually Dave B has been arguing this case for years, long before our MP even entered the political arena, Our MP has no choice but to support Dave in this as it has become such a major issue for residents that she can no longer carry on brushing it under the carpet.

When Labour were in power at CPDC, BD was deputy leader and the developers still built so whats different today?

The difference Upset is that The tories are in favour of development, irrelevant of the residents concerns, and clearly have never taken into account the infrastructure until its to late and the fact that Dave has campaigned way before RH even came on to the local Political scene to ensure the infrastructure is in place before more houses are built. But of course as is the norm the people in power that can and should do something about it never have, All they have ever cared about is their political careers, and they have shown time and time again the residents of Canvey mean nothing. RH has only just lobbied the House of Commons but sadly as usual the horse has already bolted..to little to late..but then nothing will change until those in power do.

The majority in Castle Point dont agree that's why DB & Co will only ever be able to complain and campaign, what a wasted vote, the only thing we get from the INDIES is a higher council tax.

How do we get higher council tax with the 'INDIES'?
How is a vote for the 'INDIES' wasted when they complain and campaign and GET THINGS DONE !!
To me that's the whole idea of having a Councillor who will work for the people they represent.
I'd be interested to see how many campaigns and complaints the 'TORIES' have won on the mainland as from what I can see out of the area of Castle Point Canvey seems to be better off

oh your telling me you are griping about Canvey paying an extra £20 a year on their council tax to have a Town Council that puts on community events such as the more recent Christmas lights switch on that despite the weather 1000's still turned out.
And what did the the people of benfleet get for £20 a year less Ummmmmmmmm yeah NOTHING !!!
How many people voted for a cabinet system??? A system that pays Councillors that area already paid an even higher astronomical expense to do WHAT ! They don't listen to the public as 'IKnowBetter' has already said. If I was you I would add up the cost of having a useless cabinet system and nodding with their leader Councillors before you start on the town council

Upset are you really claiming the Indies invented the Town Council? There have been Town Councils around the Country long before Canvey had its own.

Actually upset Colin MaClean (Conservative Chair) criticised the CIIP for not delivering a separate Council which he says the residents voted for. I agreed with him, however when I asked him in the "Echo" to meet up with Councillor Blackwell so that the residents could have what they voted for put forward I HAVE HEARD NOTHING!!
Now you tell me why? If Mr MaClean was so keen to see what the residents voted for, a separate Council, put in place why won't he say so? Or is it just another cheap political shot?

They never are because only those that vote count, and sadly they are in the minority. Fact is all, but one seat, were voted as CIIP, although 3 have since decided to leave the party. I think anyone that is elected for one party, but then decides to change/leave should stand down and be reflected. Said the same thing to Bob Spink when he left the Conservatives and became UKIP.

You have missed the point again, I do live in a Tory majority council area that keeps everything working & not a TC area that only manages to arrange a few events (how ever good they are).

For things to get better, they have to be worse than they are now, you have to suffer, to enjoy future improvements, be grateful, and attempt to see the bigger picture......

Oh well I hear the cranes, diggers,haulage lorries and bridging equipment are being stored on the ferry road for a few weeks, so lights it is, to get onto Canvey Island.
