Man suffers head and stomach injuries after attack in Brighton street

A man was rushed to hospital after being attacked in the street this afternoon.

A fight broke out at about 2pm in Oxford Place, off London Road.

Police found a man at the scene, believed to be in his 20s, who was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital with a serious head injury and a serious stomach injury.

It is believed he had been stabbed, although police refused to confirm that at this stage.

His condition is not thought to be life threatening.

A man in his forties was arrested nearby on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said enquiries are at a very early stage.
