A FED-UP councillor is lobbying Castle Point Council to take action against residents who refuse to clean up their dog’s mess from Canvey’s seafront.

John Anderson, Canvey Independent Party councillor for Canvey Central, said he had received a number of complaints from residents regarding the large amount of mess left on Canvey seafront.

The councillor insists the council needs to fix the issue and is planning to raise the problem during a full council meeting today.

He said: “It isn’t only a problem on Canvey, but it seems to be an Essex-wide issue.

However, it is the responsibility of Castle Point Council to clear the mess left on Canvey.

“It is a serious problem and it is up to the council to sort it out. Residents have said the council is not sending out enough wardens to monitor the area.”

Mr Anderson added he believes the council should fine residents if they have been caught leaving dog poo behind.

He said: “I have lived on Canvey for 35 years and it really is the jewel of Castle Point.

“The area needs to be looked after properly and cleaning up and monitoring the amount of dog fouling needs to be accounted for.

“Action needs to be taken, Fines should be given and more wardens should be sent out.”

Resident, Caroline Burt, who walks her dogs on the island, added: “I will not take my puppies down there. It doesn’t matter where you walk, the poo is everywhere.

“Where I live, there is always dog poo on our footpath and I get fed up picking it up after other people’s dogs.

“If youhave a pet then pick the poo up and put it in a doggy bin – there are plenty of them about – or take it home.”

Castle Point Council was approached for a comment, but failed to respond.
