Elderly woman rescued from her own following fire
A WOMAN in her eighties was rescued from her home by her carer following a fire in the lounge of her bungalow.
Fire crews from Canvey and Rayleigh Weir were called to Marine Approach on Canvey at about 3.15pm today.
Firefighters donned breathing apparatus and used one hose reel to tackle the blaze.
Half of the property, measuring 10m x 15m, was filled with smoke and a high pressure fan was used to clear it.
The pensioner was left in the care of the Ambulance Service suffering after breathing in smoke.
A fire investigation will be carried out to establish the cause of the fire.
The incident was dealt with by 16:06 hrs.
