CHILDREN from a Benfleet special school have saddled up for an Austrian-themed riding competition.
Pupils from Cedar Hall School mounted ponies to take on counterparts from Columbus College in Chelmsford, over a host of obstacles at Burches View Stables in Thundersley.
This year the theme was Austria, so riders rode Haflinger ponies from the Alpine country, while challenges included scooping up baskets of Austrian cheese.
Janet Abbot, instructor at the stables, said: “It was a real triumph, the children had a really good time. It was really good to see them enjoying something that was so different to what they normally do.
