Proposals for a third Canvey road link joining the island to Kent have been criticised by Castle Point MP Bob Spink.
The plan was put forward by a consortium called Metrotidal and would also involve a tidal barrage at the mouth of the Thames.
But Dr Spink believes the road crossing would be in the wrong place.
He said: "What Castle Point needs is an additional access road for Canvey from Northwick Road going west, not this scheme."
