Nazi bomb blown up near Canvey Way

A NAZI bomb was blown up on marshland near Canvey Way yesterday.

The bomb squad wWAS called in to deal with the 500kg Second World War explosive discovered on Bowers Marsh, Bowers Gifford.

The explosive was discovered on Bowers Marsh by RSPB workers clearing the area to create a nature reserve at about 1.30pm.

The bomb squad was called in and carried out a controlled explosion at about 4.15pm.

Canvey Way was closed for 15 minutes and a two kilometre exclusion zone was put in place while the explosion took place.

So that's why Canvey way was closed at about 16:15 this afternoon. Thought there had been another accident.

WOULD HAVE BEEN AN IDEA TO BROADCAST THE WARNING ON LOCAL RADIO OR TV FIRST AS THIS CAUSED A REAL WORRY AND CONCERN TO REISIDENTS AS FAR AS STANFORD & CORRINGHAM THAT A LARGE BANG WAS HEARD AND WINDOWS FLOORS,WALLS&RATTLED AND VIBRATED.

how do you know it was a Nazi bomb? It might have been an ordinary bomb that was caught up in all the excitement and went along with it.
