Fire advice handed out after fire at Benfleet home

THE benefits of smoke alarms were highlighted to Benfleet residents following a small house fire.

Crews from Rayleigh Weir and Leigh were called to a house in Woodburn Close at around 6.25pm where they found a lounge at the side of the property on fire.

After using breathing apparatus and two hose reels to put out the flames, the smoke logged property, which was fitted with smoke alarms, was ventilated using fans.

Firefighters then visited neighbouring properties to distribute fire safety advice.
