Woman suffers smoke inhalation

A WOMAN suffered smoke inhalation after her chip pan caught alight.

TWO fire crews and an ambulance were called to a home in Appleton Road, Benfleet, at around 7:20pm yesterday, when a chip pan caught fire after being left on the stove.

The woman, who had to be given oxygen therapy by paramedics, had used damp tea towels to try and suffocate the flames before help arrived.

Fire fighters made sure the pan and the kitchen was safe before leaving the woman in the hands of the ambulance service.

They also fitted smoke alarms in the property.

The logical question is why are people still using chip pans they are highly dangerous. An electric alternative fryer or a far healthier oven chip option would avoid this type of incident.

I am pleased the lady recovered she almost had her chips !

Agree with "Perfect Logic" if you like chips get a temperature controled fryer 8/10 mins. at 160/170c job done. Or parboil chipped potatoes for 2 mins. and shallow fry with 2tablespoons of good oil. Eat and enjoy. Could have been a lot more serious. Don't do it again.
