  • "The project was supposed to finish on the 31st March. But the ECC were late getting the funding so the contractors cannot be held totally responsible.

Must remember to set my alarm clock for 5:00 am on Monday because the starting of the traffic lights and being able to turn right to go on to Canvey will no doubt lead to hell on the road.

Interesting that the was a police car parked in the driveway to the travellers site at Sadlers Farm for several days last week and over the weekend. Do you think they were looking for lost workers?"

Sadlers Farm roadworks deadline missed again

Still work to do – some of it will continue until June 23 Still work to do – some of it will continue until June 23

THOUSANDS of motorists will have to contend with more delays on Sadlers Farm as Essex County Council admitted it will miss the new deadline.

The majority of the £63million roadworks were scheduled to finish tomorrow, after council bosses pushed back the original completion date of May 31 citing poor weather conditions.

A link road, taking motorists from the Chelmsford-bound A130 to the London-bound A13 will open as planned tomorrow.

However, the new traffic lights on the main roundabout will not be operational until Monday, three days later than intended.

The traffic lights will mean drivers needing to go from the A13 towards Canvey, can turn right on to the A130 Canvey Way, instead of going all the way round the roundabout.

Resurfacing of the main roundabout, which is as yet half finished, will not be completed for more than two weeks.

Half of the new overhead road signs for the A13 and A130 have also yet to be installed. The latest delays have frustrated motorists.

Gary Langlois, of Long Road, Canvey, said: “I just give up with this.

“Motorists have had to wait more than long enough for this all to be finished. It is just not good enough to keep delaying it. They have had enough time on this.

“Why the roundabout can’t be resurfaced I don’t understand.

“It should be done overnight. It’s no wonder it is all taking so long, when every time you pass all they seem to be doing is standing around.”

Motorists have had to contend with hours of delays to their journeys since the roadworks started in 2010.

Anger continued to mount this weekend, as no work appeared to be carried out on the intersection over the four-day bank holiday, despite deadline day looming.

However, Essex County Council claims contractors continued to operate on the site throughout the whole weekend, from 7am until 5pm each day.

An Essex County Council spokesperson confirmed the southbound link road would be completed on time, but safety checks would delay the switch on of signalling until Monday.

The spokesman added: “The roundabout will be completely resurfaced, with all islands completed, by Saturday, June 23.

“We are very pleased these vital elements of the scheme are now so close to completion, and would again like to thank residents for their co-operation at this time.”

The major roadworks scheme has seen the construction of four new bridges, the removal of five mini roundabouts, and the widening of the A13 to four lanes between Sadlers Farm and Pitsea.
