Emergency repairs at Tarpots due to gas leak

EMERGENCY repair work is taking place at a major Benfleet intersection due to a gas leak.

The leak is taking place at Tarpots roundabout, which links London Road, Rushbottom Lane, and Benfleet High Road.

Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes while repairs are taking place.

The site is currently undergoing a £120,000 renovation to remove the double mini roundabouts and replace them with traffic lights, which are scheduled to finish June 19.

It forms part of the £63million Sadlers Farm roadworks which are taking place nearby.

However, Essex County Council maintains the gas leak is not linked to the roadworks. A spokesman from the council said:"The gas leak is being dealt with by the gas board. It is not something we are repairing and we do not know the cause. "However it is not cause by any roadworks at Tarpots or Sadlers Farm. We put out the warning as an advisory note to residents."
