Controversial plans for 450 homes in Dunton thrown out by council

CONTROVERSIAL plans to build a housing estate of 450 homes on green belt land have been thrown out by councillors.

Plans for new homes on part of the Ford Dunton automotive research site in Dunton, Laindon, hadbeen recommended for approval by officers at Basildon Council.

Bellway Homes wanted to build the properties, ranging from one-bedroom flats to five-bedroom houses.

But, after a swell of opposition from residents and councillors, the plans were thrown out.

It's been suggested that the councillers only voted against this development on Ford owned land because it meant the usual 'benefits' they would normally expect to profit from housing developments would not be available and all profits would go to Ford Motor Company...

Obviously Ford would get the profits from the sale as it is their land. As with most developments, the council does not own the land so doesn't normally get 'profits' from developments anyway. I think you are referring to section 106 payments which developers do pay to the council for road improvements/educati
on etc etc.

Section 106 payments would still have been relevant and applicable to this development, so your comments are basically incorrect.

Section 106, would like to see of the record how much would or would not be collected, as we all know Section 106 monies do not always Materialise, and if it does can just spend years sat on theb alance sheet of the council.

Not 450. 200.
This is b*******. A number of residents were argueing the case when it would have made the development more of a community. There were retail provisions for shops, a doctors surgery I am led to believe. A Bus route along the main road running through the estate and with an extra entrance/exit is exactly what was needed.

not enough brown paper bags from Greggs handed out to the councillers, perhaps.

They like their slice of pie if their waistbands are anything to go by....

We have enough new houses going up in the local area, no more new houses should be built until a proper road structure has been put in to place to cope with all the bad traffic we have.

I work at Dunton & am glad of the news : 0 )
