Stephen Castle, Essex county councillor responsible for the county’s contribution to the Games, said: “With the start of the Olympic Games just a few weeks away, I think it’s great Hadleigh is starting to take on the Olympic look and feel that’s in common with the other Olympic venues across the country.

“With flags and other visual installations that are being placed throughout our Olympic venues, marking the start of this exciting and most spectacular of occasions.

“I’m looking forward to seeing Hadleigh dressed in all its spender.”

Pam Challis, leader of Castle Point Council said: “We have some fantastic young talent in the borough which is being showcased through the Dressing Hadleigh project.

“The choice of Hadleigh Farm as the location for the Olympic Mountain Bike event this summer will bring thousands of visitors, allowing these artworks to be appreciated by a worldwide audience.”

Jayne Baldwin, 30, from Leigh, wrote to the Echo in praise of the artwork.

She said: “They are absolutely lovely and really brighten up the area.

“Those young people should be really proud of their efforts.”

Hadleigh Farm will host the Olympic mountain biking event on August 11 and 12.

The new hoardings have made a difference to the look of the Crown Public House site and that of the Hadleigh area, but this must be temporary measure, a new use or owner of the Crown must be investigated or found as soon as possible, hiding it behind hoardings is not the long term answer.

Oh dear. It merely looks like the council are trying to mask some embarassing area, from the gaze of olympic visitors and officials, by using hoardings similar to used for building work.
The artwork looks tacky too, by the way. Grafitti anyone?

You are right that the hoardings are just masking things the Council want to cover up but the artwork was done by local 9 and 10 year olds so it's a bit disingenuous to call them "tacky". You are probably right about them attracting graffiti though (spelling) but what do you expect, there is nothing for young teenagers to do of an evening in Hadleigh. Other areas have skateparks and teenage villages to keep the youngsters occupied but young teens have always been ignored in Hadleigh, probably because they can't vote.

A cheap way to cover up a Hadleigh eyesore! Top marks to the children though - good paintings.

I think that Jaguar Design & Print have made a wonderful contribution to the area with a professional job along with the local schools.
