SCHOOLCHILDREN have been making a scene down at the beach – by creating two super-sized murals. The murals have been used to decorate the seawall at Concord Beach on Canvey ’s seafront.

They are the work of pupils from Canvey Infant and Canvey Junior schools and the latest in a string of murals planned by the Friends of Concord Beach.

The infant school children drew a fish and mermaid design, which was then painted on the wall by staff at the school, while the junior school pupils helped design a Greek temple as part of their design.

There are now three murals along Concord Beach. Colin Letchford, chairman of the friends’ group, said: “It was wonderful to see so many school children come down to the beach to take part in the mural painting.

The beach is for children and everyone here is proud of it. “We have plans to bring in more colour. Obviously, as a children’s beach, it must fit in with that theme.”

Canvey artist Darren Jones helped design the murals and said he loved working with the children.

Darren, 25, said: “I freelance, so a lot of the work I get varies, but this was something I really enjoyed. The children were so keen to interact and now everything is finished it looks really great.

“I’m very pleased with the result. The kids did a great job.”

Mr Letchford is looking for more volunteers to help make the wall look even more appealing. If you have ideas or are keen to help, e-mail the the Friends of Concord Beach at c.letchford @o2.co.uk

It's brilliant and everyone involved should be feeling very proud of themselves :)

Very well done.

I just hope it has an anti-graffiti coating on it.
