Five arrested after spate of pellet gun incidents


FIVE people have been arrested after a spate of incidents involving a BB gun were reported across Leigh and Southend in the early hours of Sunday morning.

In one incident in Leigh at 2.30am, two teenagers walking along Leigh Road were robbed of their mobile phones after the occupants of a car got out and threatened them with a gun.

At 3am a 20-year-old cyclist was left unharmed after being threatened by the occupants of a car on Woodgrange Drive, Southend.

In a third incident just ten minutes later another pair of teenage boys were approached by a car and threatened with a hand gun on Bournemouth Park Road, Southend. They ran off and the car drove off.

Shortly before 4am a 30-year-man was shot in the face with a BB gun on Leigham Court Drive, Leigh.

He flagged down a passing police car and after being treated at the scene by paramedics was allowed to go home.

Shortly after the incident on Leigham Court Drive, the occupants of a car were arrested by armed police on Kenilworth Gardens.

Four people from south-east London and a 17-year-old boy from Leigh are presently being questioned by detectives at Southend.

Detectives have asked residents and motorists to be vigilant and have asked anyone finding a weapon to call them at Southend on 0300 333 4444.
