Teenage boy punched in face in Eastwood attack

A TEENAGE boy was punched in the face as he walked through an alleyway in Eastwood.

The 16-year-old was rolling a cigarette as he was walking between the A127 and Brookfields. He was approached by someone from behind who snatched the tobacco from his hand and punched him in the face - giving him a fat lip.

PC Lewis Gordon, investigating officer, said: “Unfortunately, the victim was unable to provide a description of the suspect. If you were in the area and saw anything suspicious, please get in touch.”

The incident happened at about 8.50pm on Thursday, January 5.

Pc Gordon can be reached at Leigh police station on 101.

At 16 he is too young too smoke so the other yob was doing him a favour by stopping him breaking the law.

Proves that smoking is bad for your health!

Police clearly taking a more heavy handed approach when dealing with underage smoking!

So that makes it right then........

How about I ram you off the road if I see you driving in excess of the speed limit? ;-)

One guy on his own, why didn’t he hit him back? Smoking’s only been 18 for a couple of years anyway; shouldn’t it still be 16 really? If 16s old enough to have sex and 17s old enough to drive then surely you should be allowed to smoke at that age?

Mr Russ whoever you are: I would never be seen in the same road as you.

Perhaps it was an extreme way to prevent a slow lingering death from lung cancer?

Too unfit to run after him maybe?
.
I believe the SALE of tobacco to U18s is illegal not the actual use of.

He was probably distracted by the warning on the pouch at the time of the attack.

The warning proved correct - smoking does harm your health.

Regardless of whether smoking is good, bad, legal or illegal at whatever age, what happened was a despicable act of violence and surely should be viewed that way? Just because the young lad is a smoker, does that mean it's OK to be violent to him? If anybody thinks it is, then maybe they ought to examine their own sense of morality.

When people say things like this I generally assume that they don’t mean it and are just being immature /idiotic/ unthinking/ showing off! I’d be very surprised if anybody actually thought he deserved it just because he smoked! If they do mean it I’d doubt they even know the definition of the word morality, as they are clearly morons!

No doubt the young lad has also provided PC Lewis Gordon with the name and address of the person who supplied him with the tobacco.

Im sure the police have got better things to do, than to investigate the sale of tobacco to a sixteen year old.

Well I'd rather see a copper pull over a driver on the phone instead of writing to a sixteen year old's parents regarding to inform them of underage smoking...

I dont see even why the fact that he was smoking was mentioned in this article. If he was looking at his watch, would it say, young lad attacked while looking at his watch? I dont think so. The fact is he was punched in the face and people should just view it as that.

But if the watch had been stolen (as the baccy was) you would surely expect that fact to be mentioned wouldn't you ?

So basically a person has been robbed for tobacco. Seems a bit strange to me!
