fans cried and scream-ed as actor Daniel Radcliffe enjoyed a night out in Leigh.

The 22-year-old star, who is famed for playing wizard Harry Potter, left diners and customers spellbound as he enjoyed a meal with three pals at Irma’s restaurant, in Elm Road.

Daniel, who has also starred in thriller the Woman in Black, was more than happy to chat with fans, sign autographs and pose for pictures as he made his way from the restaurant to Ugo’s Cafe Bar in Leigh Broadway.

Maria Bartholomew, 18, was working behind the bar when Daniel arrived.

Maria, of Highlands Boulevard, Leigh, who served the group some free drinks, said: “We heard he was at Irma’s and joked it would be funny if he came to the bar.

“We were so shocked when he walked in with his friends.

“Some fans then came running in to the bar asking for autographs, but our boss asked them to leave.

“He was really nice and friendly. It was so exciting and there were even girls standing outside the bar screaming and crying.”

In addition to his friends who live in Leigh, Daniel’s mum Marcia Gresham was a pupil at St Bernard’s High School, in Westcliff, and his grandparents still live in the area.

It is believed Daniel was visiting Leigh for his nan’s birthday.

Olivia O’Brien, 15, a pupil at Thorpe Hall School posed in a picture with the film star.

Olivia, of Dawlish Drive, Leigh, said: “I was gobsmaked when I found out he was in Leigh.

“Me and my cousin, Lydia, rushed to the restaurant and waited outside.

“When he came out he was so down to earth and lovely and was asking how we were and asked if we wanted a picture. I am a massive Harry Potter fan and I cannot believe I have actually met him.”

Her mum Alice, 39, added: “As soon as she found out, she was out of the house like a shot trying to find him.

“It is absolutely amazing he came to Leigh.”

I promise I'm not being negative.
BUT, when was this "event".
I seem to recall he was reported as being nearby in FEBRUARY.
If this is a report from then - "No comment" .
If it is yesterday....i.e. "News", well, welcome back to him and thanks for entertaining young girls in Leigh.

You should try the one with fennel and chilli, that's nice too. My personal favourite is the Pancetta pizza with lashings of chilli oil.

Ok, so the news value of this is?
Seriously though, nice to see that Mr Radcliffe is willing to associate with his fans & not have a gang of heavies to stop anyone getting within 10 feet of him.
One question - why would you give a multi-millionaire free drinks?

Really? When I worked behind the bar at at a (government owned) venue on the Isle of Man, we had various celebrities present, they usually bought their own, David, Schimmer, Mitch Murray, Johnny Vegas, The Beautiful South, to name but a few. Oh, & when Johnny Vegas joined the queue, he caused a real stir, then happily signed everything asked for & posed for photos whilst waiting with everyone, great guy....
