Broken lifts at Beaver Towers in Eastwood will not be fixed until next month

A HOUSING association says it will fix faulty lifts at a towerblock as soon as possible.

One of the lifts at Beaver Tower in Mansell Close, Eastwood, has broken down and the other one has got a fault meaning it keeps breaking down - forcing residents to walk up as many as 11 flights of stairs.

South Essex Homes says a specialist part for the broken-down lift has been ordered and it should be fixed by early September. Engineers are also working on fixing the problem on the second lift.

All residents were sent a letter yesterday (15) to explain the situation.
One resident, who didn’t want to be named, said: “I know residents got a petition about it to hand in.

“It is not easy walking up and down, there is one guy there who is on walking sticks - he can’t go out. There’s girls there with children, they can’t go in and out, it is very difficult. With two kids and your shopping it is not good.“

South Essex Homes apologised to residents for the inconvenience.

Actually, whoever you are, the tower block is one of the more respectable blocks. I, like many people in the block own my large flat as it was an ideal investment for a first time buyer 6 years ago. Both myself and my wife are highly respected professionals, with a young family who work hard for a living. Now are you suggesting that I am scum? Or are you just someone who likes to stereotype people? Get a grip please

Whoever or whatever these people pay for a service. If a lift is so complicated that spares cannot be kept then it is not fit for purpose. 11 flights is ridiculous to expect people to manage.Apologies do not make it right. If they rent they should be reduced rent. If bought then compensation.

I fully agree with this statement. They should not be allowed to get away with this. Replace both lifts asap so this does not happen again.

As a tax payer I don't won't to pay for this!
Why have a flat in a tower block if you can't manage the stairs, you took the flat knowing lifts fall out of order, you lot are priceless! Do you need help in every thing you do or dose it fullfill a need in your empty lives
