A FAMILY home, a hospital and an eco-friendly school have all become award winners.

The buildings were successful entrants in this year’s heritage, design and conservation awards run by Rochford District Council.

The overall winner was the owner of newly built Colwood, in The Chase, Ashingdon, which is a family home and impressed judges with its high quality of traditional design and workmanship.

“All these features together create a time-honoured look for this new house,” the judges said.

The Cherry Orchard Jubilee Country Park was first in the category of environmental improvement schemes while St Nicholas’ Primary School, off Rawreth Lane, Rayleigh, which opened last year, was first in the category of non-residential schemes.

Rochford Hospital triumphed in the category of development or renovation in a conservation area.

The annual awards aim to promote sensitive development and renovations in the district, to help preserve the unique character and heritage of the area.

Council leader Terry Cutmore said: “The Rochford District Council conservation awards are a unique opportunity to reward high standards of innovative construction with a feel for heritage and design excellence.
