TWO friends have set up a business with a difference – they will give half their profits to charity.
Dominic Adams and Greg Vassallo are selling top-quality golf shirts, with 50 per cent of the money they make going to two worthy causes.
Their idea came about after a close friend died of prostate cancer last year.
As a result, the two golfers set up Camo Clothing, in Aviation Way, Rochford, and have pledged to split half their profits to the Orchid Cancer Appeal in memory of their pal, and the Army Benevolent Fund.
Dominic, of Langham Drive, Rayleigh, had wanted to help a charity for Armed Forces personnel for some time.
The 38-year-old, who has been playing golf for ten years, said: “After a year as vice-captain, I was due to become captain of the Top Meadow Golf Club, in Ockendon, from April 2007, and had intended to support an Armed Forces charity.
“It amazed me how much soldiers gave in their line of work and, at the time, little help was being provided by the Government.
“In November 2006, my friend Pete Morgan was diagnosed with prostate cancer.
“The group of golfers who played with us on a Saturday morning were very upset and could not believe how Pete, at just 54, could become ill with prostate cancer.
“So, we decided to do something in Pete’s memory.”
Greg, 41, of The Chase, Rayleigh, said: “We decided to support Orchid because, when you get touched by something like cancer, you want to support it.
“We decided to set up the business in July of last year, and it has taken us this long to develop the idea and the designs for the clothes.
“We are now just at the point of launching the business.”
