SILVER surfers are discovering the worldwide web thanks to lessons from students.
Older residents in Hockley are queuing to take up the opportunity to learn more about computers and the internet thanks to a joint initiative between Essex County Council Libraries and Greensward Academy.
Teenagers from the academy, in Greensward Lane, volunteer their time to teach the basics to pensioners at weekly hour-long sessions at the library, in Southend Road.
Jamie Benson, from Hockley, head of sixth form at Greensward, said: “This is all about building bridges between the generations. Computers were identified as the common ground where students could support and develop the skills of older users."
