Hall Road in Rochford was closed after a lorry hit overhead cables.
Officers were contacted at 7.30am by a passing motorist and implemented the road closure soon after.
Police are keen to trace the driver of the lorry, which is believed to have a red cab and a log cabin on its trailer.
Anyone with information in connection with this crash is urged to contact officers at Rayleigh Road Policing Unit on 03003334444.
EDF Energy Networks engineers are at the site working on the overhead lines.
EDF spokeswoman, Clare Phillips, said: "A small number of customers have had their power supply affected as a result of the incident. EDF Energy Networks staff are on site working to carry out the repair as quickly as is safely possible. We do understand how inconvenient it can be without power and apologise to the customers affected."
The road reopened at 9.40am.
