Burglars strike in Hockley

BURGLARS broke into a Hockley home and stole a £200 diamond ring.

Thieves got into the house in Spa Road through an lunlocked ground floor window.

It happened between 4.30pm and 8pm on Thursday, December 22.

Det Con reece Brent, of Southend police, said: "Burglaries such as this one highlight how crucial it is to ensure that all windows and doors are shut, secure and locked using a key.

" The majority of burglars are opportunist. Take away the easy opportunity and protect your home. Look at the Essex Police website for home security advice and our 'beat the burglar campaign'.”

A forensic examination of the scene was carried out along with house-to-house enquiries.

Anyone with information in connection with this burglary is urged to contact detectives at Southend police station 101.

Only 200 quid - must have been a tiny diamond.

I once travelled to Amsterdam in order to buy my wife some diamond earrings (not exclusively for that purpose I confess). The cheapest I could find were a hundred quid. When I presented her with them she said that she knew I wanted to show that I loved her but that I was nevertheless a cheap Charley. Well, she was right on one count!
