Chimney fire in Rayleigh

AN ELDERLY couple escaped without injuries after a chimney fire broke out in their home.

Fire crew from Rayleigh Weir were called to the incident in Keats Walk, Rayleigh, at around 4.45pm this afternoon.

They spent 45 minutes extinguishing the flames using chimney rods.

I wouldn't have expected the couple to be injured, unless they were on the roof.

The fire brigade used to charge people for putting chimney fires out.
