Man attacked at Rochford pub

A MAN was knocked unconscious after being attacked at a Rochford pub.

The 51-year-old victim, who is Polish, had been drinking at the Rose & Crown, in North Street, when he was approached by three men who were drinking inside.

They demanded he leave and began pushing him towards the door when one suspect kicked him in the chest, sending him sprawling out onto the street and causing him to hit his head on the pavement, knocking him out.

He was treated in hospital for a broken rib and continues to suffer the after-effects from the blow to the head. He was so traumatised by the experience that he now refuses to leave home after dark.

The suspect is described as a stocky, muscular built white man, aged around 24, approximately 5ft 6ins tall with cropped black hair. He was wearing a grey T-shirt at the time of the incident. Police said the incident happened at 8pm on New Year's Eve but police said they are only issuing an appeal now because there had been a delay in reporting it.

Officers are not treating it as a hate crime, but as a grievous bodily harm.

Anyone with information is asked to call PC Nicola Good on 101, ext 490533 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

CHEAP, SLANDERISH, JOURNALISM.
There is no evidence to support any of the claims made in this article what so ever! You have merely heard rumours from corrupt local police officers, and made up a story based upon them, with a little help from a thesaurus. The fact that the man is Polish is completely irrelevant, why are you inferring that it could have been considered as a possible hate crime? Only to victimise the character in your fictional story. You have also failed to mention that the man was asked to leave the Rose and Crown as he was inapropriately drunk and was causing trouble. He was in no way 'attacked' by 'thugs' at all. As for the 'victim' being too 'traumatised' to leave his house after dark, you should also know that he was also chucked out of another local pub 'The Kings Head' only last week. Of course you wouldn't know this as it seems you have failed to investigate anything. As a local newspaper you are supposed to be supporting local businesses, not dis-reputing them with slanderous accusations! The only reason there has been a delay in reporting the so called 'attack' is due to the fact that the 'victim' has only just realised he could possibly make some money out of it! Do you not think it is likely that somebody who is frequently drunk and chucked out of pubs is a trouble maker that could have aquired his 'injuries' on his own accord? I am a local in the Rose and Crown pub, which has recently in the past year come under new ownership. It is a family a pub with pleasantly welcoming atmosphere, good beer and great bar snacks. They do not in any way deserve these false accusations and bad publicity. This will not be tolerated in our community and we demand a formal apology! As for journalist Laura Smith; you may think this is just a quick, cheap story to get some praise from your joke of a newspaper, but you are putting the reputation of somebody else's family business at risk with such slanderous 'journalism'. You should be both ashamed and disgusted with yourself. Either get your facts right, or stick to writing children's story books! The 'site terms' state that you cannot post 'anything that is false, abusive or malicious'. However the Echo newspaper itself has contradicted this with such slander. INVESTIGATE THAT LAURA SMITH.

Am sure if someone was forcibly sent sprawling into the street from the entrance to the Rose and Crown they would end up in the road...

The landlords of the rose and crown know who was to blame.
Try asking them.
