FitzWimarc pupils and teachers chosen to carry the iconic Olympic torch

A SCHOOL will be flying the flame for a town after ten of its pupils and staff were picked as Olympic Torchbearers.
It is believed the school is one of only a few chosen to take part in the relay by torch sponsors Lloyds TSB, and it will take the torch for a large portion of the route.
Lynne Kelly, assistant head and PE teacher, will join the head of PE, Danny Cowley, and eight pupils to carry the iconic flame.
Miss Kelly, who nominated the pupils, said she was thrilled the school would take part in the relay.
She said: “The FitzWimarc School is a fantastic sporting school, with outstanding achievements. Last year alone we got through to the national finals in cross-country, gymnastics, trampolining and athletics.”
All of the children were chosen as they excelled at sport and went to clubs and groups at the school.
Miss Kelly added: “We have extra-curricular clubs before school, lunchtime and after school, and on Saturday mornings there are fixtures and practices.
“There are not only elite performers involved in the clubs, we have a range of abilities and encourage all pupils to take part.
“I believe we deserve the opportunity to hold the flame, for all the pupils and teachers who have shown an immense dedication and commitment to sport and continue to do so.”
