Olympic Torch Relay goes through Rayleigh Olympic Torch Relay goes through Rayleigh

THE Olympic Torch was met by crowds of people in Rayleigh.

People began massing in the High Street and London Road from 9am this morning ahead of the torch reaching the town at 10.20am.

The wet weather didn't put people off seeing the once-in-a-lifetime event and brollies and waterproofs were at the ready.

Excited crowds cheered on the torchbearers as they made their way through - even taking part in a Mexican wave!

Echo reporters will be bringing you up to the minute exclusive of the Olympic torch. How do you interview a torch for an exclusive?

Well I thought it was a fantastic day. Never seen so many people lining the roads.

A fantastic atmosphere, and even the rain held off.

It was a great day for the kids who were all enthusiastic and we got a better view than we did of the Jubilee but frankly it's the only bit I was interested in from an historic point of view. The rest of it is a sham, mainly foreign builders constructed the stadia, London is now full of imported prostitutes and pick pockets and most likely health and benefit tourists who will most likely stay. Then there's the fiasco of the druggie Dwain Chambers who was banned from the Olympics for life in 2004. He was also banned from running then he thought he could hack it as a rugby league player but failed at that. But hey ho, he's been selected; then there's Aaron Cooke our 1st placed taekwondo hopeful, ousted by a 59th placed Muslim. Oh and the St George cross has been removed from the Olympic athletes' kits and we aren't allowed to promote England at all, England is a dirty word. But apart from that everything is tickety boo.

I tend to agree with a lot you say Kim.

Say too much and the comments will be removed from the thread.

I found this when I commented about the prime movers who campaigned to get the Olympics here, who will come out of it as multi-millionaires. With their property deals in London.

Perhaps the flag was removed as the athletes will be representing 'Great Britain' not 'England'. The two are NOT synonymous...
