A COUNCIL’S recycling scheme has been shortlisted for a national award.
Rochford District Council was shortlisted in the Local Authority Team of the Year category in the National Recycling Awards.
The national commendation aims to reward recycling teams from local authorities across the UK that have brought innovative and creative ideas to their area which has achieved high recycling rates.
Rochford’s team won the award in 2009 but missed out on the top spot this year.
The authority is one of the top in the country for recycling with 65.8 per cent of its waste being recycled.
Terry Cutmore, leader of the council, said: “It was a fantastic achievement to have been shortlisted again for such a prestigious award.
“I would like to thank our recycling team for their passion and commitment in recycling so many different materials and making the process as easy as possible for our residents. Of course, I would also like to thank our residents for all their hard work and effort which has helped make Rochford District Council the top recycling authority in the country.”
