Thieves strike at Rayleigh school

THIEVES have damaged the roof of a school in Rayleigh.

Police were called to Grove Wood Primary School in Grove Road just before 1am on Friday.

Neighbours spotted three men on the roof of the school.

Officers rushed to the scene and the police helicopter was scrambled to help with the search.

One man was found in a nearby garden at around 2.30am.

It is understood the thieves damaged the roof as they attempted to steal lead.

Essex Police said a 22 year old man from Southend has been arrested on suspicion of theft.
