DRIVERS will be charged to park at a beauty spot from the end of next month.

Rochford District Council is currently resurfacing Hockley Woods car park in Main Road, Hockley, which is due to be finished by the end of November or early December.

The previously unsurfaced area has been covered with a permeable grid to improve the car park.

Ticket machines have already been installed at the car park in a bid to deter people that work nearby clogging it up.

The charges, which apply between 9am and 6pm Monday to Friday, come into force when the work on the car park finishes.

It will cost 20p for one hour, 40p for two, 60p for three, £1 for four or £3 for an all day ticket.

Keith Hudson, Tory councillor responsible for planning, said they brought in the charges following complaints about the car park being used by nearby businesses.
