Southend FC stadium plans delayed again (From Echo)

he agreed £6 m and so that should stand. good grief we have little enough in the centre of town as it is.

The latest bid by club chairman Ron Martin hinged on how much money was going to be given to the council as a sweetner

Looks like £3.75M has already been spent of the proposed £6M he was going to give the council. Council face a choice of go for the £2.25M now offered or probably get nothing at all when the scheme fails. Somehow this stadium probably won't ever get started anyway, as in another year or so any little funds he has will have gone & Sainsbury's will just start building their store at Roots Hall with the club wound up. Hope to be wrong on that but fear its the most likely outcome.

Did all the other companies located out of town pay a sweetner?

The council don't encourage shoppers to the town anyway what with ridiculous parking charges high council tax for businesses many go to Lakeside anyway so why should SUFC stump up 6million what's wrong with good old competition?

SBC & Ron Martin, what a pairing!? Not exactly a coupling that looks to getting things done efficiently, cost effectively, speedily and in the best interests of the community.. A working partnership from hell more likely.

Keep haggling Ron. Give it another few years and the council will settle for nothing. A few years after that and they will pay for your stadium themselves.

Sadly, the stadium is never likely to be built with Ron Martin at the helm.
There must be a very real danger that Sainsburys, who have already paid millions to keep the tax man at bay, will evict the club and leave it with no ground, as happened to Brighton. Unlike Brighton, I am not sure that there is a white knight ready to step in.
Could the Council bypass Martin, as the printed edition of the Echo on 20th December was suggesting? We might have to settle for a small "Community Stadium" like Col U's, which is a good deal smaller than even the current reduced Roots Hall, but that would be better than no ground at all.

need your pockets lined? I can suggest a good Tailor, the conservative 'council' of Tailors are open 24/7 and are based in a central Southend location.

they specialise in lining pockets with bank notes.

the only problem is, they only have experience with this technique is on there own jackets.

Give them a call, you may also be able to discus any stadium construction or airport expansion ideas you may have while they preform the above mentioned artisan skill before you..

Giving a sweetener? Don't remember other companies having to pay to create jobs. SBC should be reminded its a commerical world and its online business that is taking people away from the high st. That and the fact that Southend is cheap tacky town full of Londons overflow (you know the one's the London councils were very glad to get rid of). Oh and the parking. SBC don't have the brains to work out that by offering free parking it attracts people into town. SBC are and always have been backward money grabbing toads who deserve nothing but contempt especially by asking for "sweeteners". SUFC tell them to get stuffed.

On a straightforward answer I would guess that Stobart Group, with a corporation tax bill of £1.344 million for the year to Feb 2012, do indeed pay more tax than Jayman. However if you really want to compare like with like then surely you would have to take into account that Stobarts employ 5,500 people. So that works out at just over £244 in corporation tax per employee. For the same period if Jayman earned £10,000 then he would be paying double that.
It is not completely clear from page 34 of the 2012 annual report, exactly how much Stobart Group gave to charity. That they are involved at a local and national level in not in question, but how much the company actually 'wrote cheques for' is not noted. From reading the report I can't decide if the £120k or the £150k or the £50k or the £27k was actually money from Stobart Group or was money raised by them and others at events at which Stobart Group were involved. I'd have thought that if it was in the report then it would be from them, but the wording is not 100 percent clear.
Perhaps Max would be kind enough to tell us the amount, as he has said they pay a lot to charity and I am sure he would not want to spout 'facts' unless they were actually real genuine facts.

what needs to be done is southend united stay at roots hall, and rebuild a 15000 seater stadium, and sainsburys build there store at fossets farm, and they take over ron martins development, then ron can just keep things small,
not so much of a outlay!!
