THE sun shone as walkers took to Southend seafront for a four-mile stroll to raise funds for Southend Hospital.
The hospital’s charity mascot Buddy Bear, joined the sponsored Walk for Wards event from Uncle Tom’s Cabin in Shoebury to the Chalkwell shelter.
A simultaneous 11-mile hike took place in Hadleigh.
A large team of staff from the Acute Medical Unit turned out to raising money for their ward to improve patient care.
Walkers were able to take part in the event to raise money for any hospital ward of their choice.
Elise Fleetwood, events and corporate relations manager, said: “This year’s sponsored Walk for Wards was a huge success. We are extremely thankful to our 130 supporting walkers and everyone who volunteered their time to marshal the route.
“There was a fantastic atmosphere from start to finish, the weather was extremely kind to us, we are delighted with how it went. We hope to raise over £10,000 for various wards and departments at Southend Hospital.”
