A SUSPECTED drink-driver knocked over a 79-year-old in Thorpe Bay on Friday morning.

The female pensioner suffered serious knee, shoulder, and ankle injuries plus a laceration to her head after being hit by the 56-year-old male driver in Station Road, Thorpe Bay at around 11.30am.

He was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and dangerous driving, while the pensioner’s condition is described as stable.

The driver has been bailed to report back to Southend Police Station on January 24.
