Fourteen flights have been diverted from London to Southend Airport this morning.
All 14 planes were due to land at City of London Airport, but a hole was discovered on the runway, meaning that a host of flights have been diverted.
More could still be diverted to Southend, while train passengers on Greater Anglia this morning complained of a busier-than-usual line.
The airport has posted on its website: "Due to unexpected essential runway maintenance we are currently experiencing delays and cancellations. We are expecting to resume flights by midday.
"Passengers are advised to contact their airline for their flight status, for airline contact details click here. We apologise for any inconvenience caused."
