SOUTHEND Council has spent £1.3million resurfacing ten roads in the borough this summer.

Contractor Malborough Surfacing resurfaced roads and pavements as part of the council’s push to bring the borough’s roads up to scratch.

Six more streets are due to be relaid in the coming months.

Martin Terry, Independent councillor responsible for transport, said: “On their own, these works may seem quite small, but added together, it is a significant investment in our streets, which is vital to ensure Southend remains an attractive and pleasant place to live, work and visit.”

The work has been carried out took place in Southend, Westcliff, and Leigh, with Western Road, Bailey Road, Gordon Road, Sydney Road, Barnard Road, Eaton Road, and Canewdon Road all getting new surfaces Parts of Tankerville Drive, Bonchurch Avenue and Herschell Road are also being resurfaced.

Mr Terry added: “We work hard with our maintenance contractor Marlborough Surfacing, to compete each scheme as quickly as possible to keep disruption to residents and visitors to a minimum.”

Work on six pavements is now under way and is due to be finished before April next year.

Work on Victory Path and part of Scratton Road and Cambridge Road, in central Southend, has already been completed.

Pavements on both sides of Dawlish, Manor and Walker Drives are also to be renewed, as well as part of the pavement in Colchester Road and Colchester Close
