A KITCHEN was logged with smoke after a discarded cigarette set alight in Leigh, Firefighters were called to a small kitchen fire in the early hours of this morning.
They quickly extinguished the fire using dry powder and used a positive pressured fan to clear smoke from the property.
Firefighters discovered the fire was caused by a poorly discarded cigarette Divisional Officer Neil Fenwick, Community Safety said: "It takes just one carelessly discarded cigarette and a few seconds for your world to go up in smoke.
" Every year our crews deal with hundreds of incidents started by cigarettes. "
The fire service said :”Smokers are more likely to have a fire in their home and more likely to be hurt as a result of that fire.
"A third of all fire deaths in the home are caused by cigarettes.”
