TWO pals plan to walk more than 1,000 miles to raise money for the injured service personnel charity Help for Heroes.

Joe Bines, 22, of Riviera Drive, Southend, and Stuart Ross, 20, of Surbiton Avenue, Southend, decided to take on the challenge ahead of their enlistment in the RAF next year. Mr Bines, a welder, and Mr Ross, who works in a fish and chip shop, will set off from Land’s End on April 1 next year and hope to complete the gruelling 1,111-mile walk in under 80 days.

Mr Bines said: “We wanted to raise money for the injured soldiers coming home from war zones around the world.

“It’s just going to be us two hitting the road carrying all our equipment.

“All our family and friends will come up and meet us at the end and we’ll have a big bash to celebrate.”
