VISITORS to Southend this summer can look forward to pleasure cruises from the pier to the Suffolk coast, Kent and London.
The restored pleasure-boat Balmoral is now available to take trippers on cruises from the pierhead.
The boat operated from the pier for more than 30 years before falling into disrepair.
It was restored in 2004, and now boasts two comfortable lounge bars, an observation suite, a restaurant, a passenger promenade deck and a souvenir shop.
Derek Jarvis, one of the Southend councillors responsible for enterprise, tourism and regeneration, said: “This is a magnificent opportunity to gain a unique and wonderful seagoing experience.
“We are thrilled to be able to share in the celebrations for the Balmoral’s jubilee year, and to offer the chance to book a whole range of trips. In September, we are also looking forward to the
visit of another historic vessel, the Waverley – the world’s last seagoing paddle steamer.”
