Nursery's first Ofsted report is outstanding

STAFF are celebrating success after their school nursery was hailed as outstanding in an inspection by education watchdog, Ofsted.

Blenheim Primary School and children’s centre, in Leigh, opened its new nursery in January and in June it was inspected for the first time.

In their report, inspectors heaped praise on the nursery, particularly staff for providing a safe, secure and stimulating environment for children.

Inspector Jenny Howell said: “Overall, the quality of the provision is outstanding.

“The needs of all children are met extremely effectively as staff have an excellent knowledge and understanding of individual children.”

She added: “As a result of access to supportive staff and a highly engaging environment, children are independent, secure, safe and able to play and learn with confidence and enthusiasm.”

The centre operates from a landmark building at the front of the school site and offers full day and sessional care for children up to four years old.

Headteacher Marianne Turner is in charge of the school and children’s centre.

She said: “We are absolutely delighted Ofsted has been in so quickly to assess our provision and that they have recognised the work and commitment of all the staff to the learning and development of the children.

“This is something we at Blenheim are passionate about and the reason why we bid for the children’s centre in the first place.”

She added: “The centre is getting busier and busier with more and more families accessing the services we have on offer and the nursery is a small and important part of this.”
