Woman left homeless after flat fire

A WOMAN has been rushed to hospital following a blaze that ravaged her flat.

The 45-year-old woman was given oxygen by fire crews, who described her as "slipping in and out of consciousness" after she suffered severe smoke inhalation from the fire at her Delaware Crescent home.

The woman, who was taken by ambulance to Southend Hospital, has been left homeless by the blaze but is said to be in a stable condition.

The flames completely gutted the living room, while the rest of the flat was heavily damaged by smoke.

Two fire crews from Southend were called to the scene at about 3.30pm yesterday after the flat's fire alarm alerted nearby residents.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
