Southend Council parking permit row

A TORY councillor has accused the council’s Independent group of back-tracking on its promises in a row over parking permits.

In November last year, all 51 members of Southend Council were sent passes, worth £800, to leave their vehicles at any of the council-owned car parks.

At the time, Martin Terry, leader of the Independent group, said he and his six colleagues would be sending back their passes because they did not think using them was the right thing to be doing.

Recently, Tony Cox, the Tory member, asked the council’s solicitor John Williams if any councillors had sent their pass back and was told only Ron Woodley, the independent member for Thorpe, had done so.

But Mr Terry said he had returned his pass. Refuting all of Mr Cox’s allegations. He said: “I posted mine back.

“If the council has lost it somewhere, that’s not my problem. The permit is not on my car. If councillor Cox wishes to inspect my car, he’s welcome.”

Sounds like "handbags at ten pace's",
This is about all we can expect from these so called "Responsible and Adult representives". I wonder what they would do in a National emergency??
Come on girls, stop the mud slinging and get on with making Southend a safer, and easy traffic acess to all parts of the town.

Might well sound like handbags at ten paces BUT...there is a point to all this. Cllr Terry and the Independents had been seen as "whiter than white" in the original article yet can not practise what he preaches. That spells Hypocrite!

If on such a simple point that the 'Independents' can not agree/unite can you imagine what a hung council would be like.

A bit like the travelling expenses for me, jump on a passing bandwagon for a nice little headline but dig beneath it...
