A MAN was robbed at knifepoint in Southend.
The 20-year-old, from Canvey, was robbed in Victoria Avenue at about 9.15pm on Saturday (March 13).
He was approached by a man who asked him the time before producing a large serrated knife and told him to hand over his mobile phone.
When the victim refused his attacker forced him into an alleyway between the Golden Lion and Spread Eagle pubs and threatened him with the knife.
The victim then handed over his phone and the man fled in the direction of Priory Park.
Police are trying to trace a man and a woman who were stood outside the Spread Eagle pub and may have witnessed the incident.
The robber is described as black, aged in his early 20s, abut 5ft 8ins tall, of athletic build, and he wore a black hooded jacket with woollen sleeves.
Dc Nick Brunton, of Essex Police, said: "This was a deliberate and distressing robbery of a lone male walking to the bus stop which has left him feeling very shaken and scared of walking alone.”
Anyone with information should call Dc Brunton on 0300 333 4444, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

The level of violent crime is described as "High", which is the highest descripitive level.
But there is no need to worry. The Police and Council keep telling us that crime is decreasing. So that's all right then.
