WORK has finally begun on the £1.8million revamp of Warrior Square Gardens which includes a new cafe.
A ground-breaking ceremony took place yesterday to mark the start of the regeneration of the Victorian gardens in Southend town centre.
The scheme has been funded by the Government’s Homes and Communities Agency, and is being carried out by Southend Council and regeneration company Renaissance Southend.
The new cafe will act as an important meeting point for workers, visitors, shoppers and students.
The ground -breaking ceremony was carried out by Derek Jarvis, Southend’s councillor for culture, and Steve Christian, the regional manager of contractors ISG Jackson.
