Scouts sought to eat lunch on Southend rollercoaster for stunt

SCOUTS will eat their lunch on a rollercoaster to recreate a famous request granted by TV presenter Jimmy Savile 30 years ago.

The hunt is now on to find 40 Scouts to take part in the stunt on the Green Scream rollercoaster at Adventure Island, in Southend.

In 1980, a group of Scouts from Nottinghamshire wrote to Sir Jimmy’s TV show, Jim’ll Fix It, asking to eat their lunch on a rollercoaster – a request he granted, with very messy results.

Some of the Scouts who took part went on to recreate their ride as adults for a reunion in 2007.

The latest rollercoaster ride will be taking place on Wednesday, April 7.

Scout groups are invited to send in photos of their troop doing the most amusing or interesting things they can imagine.

All the pictures should be sent via www.southendradio.

com, and on Friday, April 2, a random winner will be selected.

After their ride, all the Scouts who take part will be presented with an Adventure Island wristband.

I gather there will be a 100m exclusion zone around the ride in question and additional cleaners will be employed on the day. Suppose they could rename the ride "The New Vomit Comet"?

Thankfully the Green Scream doesn't invert like Revolution... But I fear such an event provides a platform for the kids to deliberately throw their food from the ride, and there are various small rides and paths underneath Green Scream that could be targetted, not to mention the staff room!

I presume this will be done in the morning before the park opens - followed by a very quick clean up! I don't think it'd be wise to do it during open hours because you're almost guaranteed to get someone complaining about the falling chips...
