PUPILS who were stuck in Morocco enjoyed shopping and a trip to a spa while waiting for a plane home.

Thirty-two teenagers arrived back at Westcliff High School for Girls yesterday morning, after having to spend an extra week in Marrakech.

Julia Burch, of Badgers Way, Benfleet, was among those waiting at the school to welcome back her daughter, Victoria, 13. Mrs Burch said: “I did get a few few tears when we spoke by phone after we’d both heard about the flight ban, but the conversation ended with laughter.”

Victoria said: “I was a bit worried about getting home when I heard about the ban, but the days we were stuck in Marrakech was one of the best bits of the holiday.”

The girls had been in north Africa on a ten-day adventure holiday. Sinead Aggarwal’s efforts to raise the £1,250 to pay for trip were featured in the Echo last year. The 14-year-old, of Ditton Court Road, Westcliff, said they had been a bit worried at first, but she added: “We were really looked after at the hotel. We went shopping and had a trip to a spa.”

* A-level pupils who were stuck in Italy have made it home. The 50 pupils and four teachers, from Mayflower High School, Billericay, arrived on Wednesday, after a three-day journey by bus and sea.
