Young couple arrested after cops’ drug raid

A YOUNG woman wept as she and boyfriend were arrested in a drugs raid at their church-owned home.

Officers from Southend swooped on the terraced house, in Surbiton Road, Southchurch, after neighbours raised concerns that Class A drugs were being dealt from the house.

At about 9.05am on Tuesday, the door of the red-brick home was forced open and nine officers entered to search the house, aided by a sniffer dog.

It is understood the property was given to local church group, Southend Christian Fellowship, by a parishioner, and is used as a halfway house to home vulnerable people, who pay a nominal rent.

Acting Detective Sergeant Bob Evans, of Southend CID, who led the search, said: “We were acting in response to residents’ concerns about drug dealing in the premises.

“A warrant was executed which resulted in the arrest of a man and a woman, and, at the address, a quantity of a substance, believed to be drugs, was found.

“Drug dealing and antisocial behaviour are causing concern for residents. It has been going on for two months and we have dealt with it before. We hoped that would have stopped the problem. People who choose to do this should know they will be dealt with.”

Although the house is attractively decorated, the interior was awash with overflowing bags of rubbish, with surfaces covered in filth and piles of clothes and toys everywhere.

While family pictures decorated the walls, large knives were found on coffee tables and underneath beds.

Acting Det Sgt Evans said: “Having come back to the premises for the second time, they have been found in a far worse condition than the first time. It’s dirty and unsafe, with needles lying around and drug paraphernalia lying about. Basically, it’s not fit to live in.”

When contacted by the Echo about the raid, a representative of Southend Christian Fellowship said he was not prepared to comment on the situation.

* A 23-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance and were bailed until September 28.

there be less crime if they legalised drugs and consentrated on the real criminals like people who terrorise defenceless and disabled women.

After 81 years of living, I still do not understand the attraction of strongly addictive drugs. Can any one explain this to me?

If drugs were legal, there would be no redress for neighbours.

ie loud music day and night, shouting and fighting, maybe even gun and knife crime because a deal has gone wrong, (in the above article large knives were found under beds and on tables), general intimidating and anti-social behaviour from desperate junkies wanting money to score. Do you really want to live next door or even up the road to this?

Legalizing drugs and making them available from licensed premises as in alcohol does on the face of it seem like a good idea, however it will not stop this, it is cultural and it is getting worse. Idiot would be gangster types want to be "the man".

Anti-social scum-bags junkies know how to play the system. They know exactly how to con people and they are masters in spinning a sob story to tug at the heart strings of the gullible.

It is not beneath them to quote the bible at naive church groups to get what they want, and once they get it they revert to type and make everyone else's life a misery, with noise, anti-social behaviour (often intimidating), and hoards of others just like them coming and going it can be likened to living next door to a noisy party 24/7.

When will church groups realize that by pandering to these types they are exacerbating the problem. If the above was truly grateful for his low rent home (there are thousands that would be) he would have at least kept a low profile and not annoyed his neighbours, which is probably why the prat got caught in the first place.

When will these stupid arrogant church groups understand that the only people that can change a junkies life it the junkies themselves. By "helping" these types, you are exacerbating the problem and promoting misery for everyone, including neighbours, families, and even the junkies themselves.

'A Young Woman Wept'
Only because they had been caught though!
What did they really expect?
Once again it is the general public and neighbours who report criminal activity. The police rely 99% on the public to do the watching and reporting of criminal activity (and even sometimes the catching of the criminals).
Hope this encourages the public to report all dodgy activities. The police are hopeless (sorry should read helpless) without public assistance.

Will the police be applying to a judge for a crack house closure order. Get the house boarded up for 3 months, like the Basildon police seem to be arranging.

What gets me is, some of us have to take so many drugs a day just to keep alive and injections too, never mind about freaking out for the high these addicts have. Its a pity they cant get that buzz just from being alive and healthy and thankful for it! Why would anyone want to become an addict and slave to an expensive habit or support the view that would legalise it? Some people cant even get the cancer drugs they need in this Country because the NHS cant afford it. Too many young people die before their time through booze and drug misuse withought even knowing the joys that a full life can bring. Its sad.

its because they have no sense of decency or life, they have to be drugged up cos they are useless low life anyway, going nowhere, unlike yourself, they will not see your longevity, serves them right eh, does that clarify it a bit

So now we know what to expect from Southend Christian fellowship, more tenants in the future with drug, drink and god knows what other problems in a quiet residential street with no thought given to the poor sods who hold down jobs and pay mortgages to live next to this lot who lay on their fat /scrawny backsides dealing death and attracting addicts from all around southend to visit this street
If you want to let your feelings known on this, write or drop in to the Southend Christian fellowship, Plaza centre 600 Soutchurch Road and tell them exactly what effect their policy of trying to rehabilitate druggies in a built up residential area is having
Also "The Project" charity shop in Southchuirch road is run by the same church to subsidise this whole operation so think twice before you donate or buy anything there as you may well be helping facilitate this whole operation
Why dosent the church open their eyes to whats going on there, another resident of this house was busted for drug dealing a few months ago and this couple(of idiots) have a little girl who has to live in this squalor with addicts regularly visiting the house
Why not sell the house and buy a property away from the town and its drug temtations, why not check the property each month and test the tenants as part of their rehabilitation deal

This town is drowning under drug crime now it should be renamed Crackhead-on-Sea! Those living in nice expensive 'comfortable' areas like Thorpe Bay, Leigh, Chalkwell etc should watch out too. The gangs from London have massive wealth and can pay any rent in any area they decide to move into.

The Mr Bigs always live in nice areas but keep their heads down and blend in - they don't want the Police or anyone else knowing what they are upto.
.
Meanwhile the wannabe hardboy gangstas act like anti social scum and wonder why the Police descend on them like a tonne of bricks.

Could it be they stick out like a sore thumb?

The christian fellowship was probably renting rooms as a house of multiple occupancy and coining in the rent in the way of housing benefit. as long as the money kept rolling in what need would they have to send someone round to upset this cosy arrangement. I'm cynical and am of the opinion that there are too many out there willing to exploit others in the name of religion. I do not wish to offend the genuine carers out there and believe me i have met some and respect what they do but it is all too easy to get suckered in to these groups and people to innocently believe all is right because it is "christian."

Canvey Island is crawling with wannabe gangster type drug dealers and some of them are now starting to get very wealthy at a young age as they have been doing it for some time and the police are doing absolutely Nothing to deter or "catch" them so the trend is growing and will continue until something is done to put these home wrecking scumbags out of business. Make an example and it will make others think twice about dealing drugs.
