A MAN had to be rescued from under a train after he fell between the gap on a station platform.

The 25-year-old fell between the stationary train and the platform edge at 10.50pm on Tuesday evening.

It is understood the man was involved in an altercation with two other men on the train before it pulled into platform three at Southend Central station.

As he was getting off the train, he slipped into the gap and became trapped.

A spokesman from the British Transport Police, said: “British Transport Police and Essex Police officers were called to attend following reports of a person on the line.

“The 25-year-old man from Tilbury was taken to Southend Hospital for treatment to minor injuries, and has since been released.”

Ambulance and fire crews from Southend were called to the scene and rescued the man with the help of three fire engines and one rescue tender.

A spokesman from Southend fire station, said: “All the trains were stopped as we rescued him from the other side of the track and put him in the care of the ambulance service.”

He was treated at the scene for minor cuts and grazes.

Train services at the station were delayed by 25 minutes while the rescue took place.

A 17-year-old and an 18-year-old man, who are believed to have been on board the same train, were arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault.

They are currently in custody and will be questioned by British Transport Police officers. Anyone with information is asked to call BTP on 0800 405040.
