700 riders turn out for Southend Bikeathon

CYCLISTS hit the roads in their hundreds to take part in the 16th annual Southend Bikeathon to raise money for Leukaemia Research.

About 700 riders pedalled 13 miles from Shoebury East Beach through the countryside around Barling and Great Wakering, before looping back to the beach.

Some intrepid bikers even did the route twice.

True to tradition, a replica Formula One racing car led the bikes out from the starting line shortly after 9am on Sunday.

For more information, or to request an entry form for next year, log-on to www.southendbikeathon.co.uk or call 01702 544964.

Well done to all who took part!

It was fantastic to see so many cyclists out on the roads. It would be even better to see so many every day!

Again, well done to everyone who took part!
