Restaurant damaged by electrical fire

A RESTAURANT has suffered smoke and heat damage in a fire which started in a fuse box.

Firefighters were called to Mangetout cafe bistro, in Chichester Road, Southend, at around 2.40am this morning, Monday, where they found a fire which had been burning for some time.

Crews had to wait for EDF Energy to isolate the fuse box externally before they could tackle the flames, which caused smoke and heat damage to much of the restaurant.

They left the scene at around 4.30am.

Its been there decades, yes they have had refits but the building is quite old.

I doubt it's an insurance job. Mangetout does a roaring trade and I love lunching in there. It's one of the few independent family-run places still around, and the staff are all so friendly. Really sad I won't be able to visit for a while. Hope this is resolved quickly.
