c2c apologises over rush-hour delays

c2c apologises over rush-hour delays c2c apologises over rush-hour delays

COMMUTERS were left stuck in cold conditions after a major power cut affected c2c trains this morning.

A failure between Fenchurch Street and Barking stations caused trains to either stop or become delayed for up to an hour all the way back into Southend.

The managing director of c2c Julian Drury apologised for the disruption.

He said: "I really am very sorry: I want to apologise personally for the very serious disruption to our services this morning.

"This was caused by a failure of the feeder station at West Ham supplying power to the network.

"The long delays were due to the need to re-start trains gradually because of overloading of the remaining power system at what was the busiest time of the day.

I am very sorry for the bad start to your day. Please accept my sincere apology for this.

Engineers are trying to frantically resolve the problems.

Admittedly, the driver kept us well informed this morning but I can't imagine those people who got off at West Ham only for the train to pull away, were very happy. I got to work an hour late.

I was incredibly lucky this morning. Our train was just approaching Fenchurch Street when the power went off. We just had enough momentum to get us into the station. Feel incredibly sorry for those affected today.

I was one of those many commuters left stranded outside Barking on the train. Boarded at 8.22am at Leigh, got off at 10.10am at Fen.St ! driver said problem was at Tilbury (again?! - one suspects cable theft). How many more times these theives going to get away with this crime!?

It does say WEST HAM in the main article.

WHY is it, when things go wrong on the railway, people Galore moan, yet they are still prepared to let delays on the roads for whatever reason, remain Unmentioned?

The WORST reason for train delays IS Passengers and I speak from experience.

Think yourself lucky you're not on the Southend Victoria line. No heating on ay train I've been on all winter. Too cold to read the paper without my gloves on this morning.

I see National Express have started removing their branding. The sooner they're gone, the better as far as I'm concerned.

Not a bad day delay wise, only a 15 min delay into Liverpool St due to a broken down train at Ilford. Late enough to make my boss annoyed but not late enough for a delay repay.

*sigh*

I was on that. Absolutely bloody freezing though! I wrote to C2C and they said they would refund half the fare if you send them a copy of your ticket.

The delays over a power cut can't be helped, but why should we have to put up with trains without heating in the winter. I am getting fed up being told "its set at the depot mate". Due to the fun on Thursday I travelled on 4 trains to and from London and not once was the heating on. Also Friday both ways again no heating--but the aircon was on blasting out ice cold air.
